"Life and Liberty for All Who Believe"
Below is a great PFAW video from the 1980's narrated by Burt Lancaster.
Also a good reminder of what Jerry Falwell's goals were and what the goal of the radical christian right still is.

Feel the Christian Love
Professor Mary Graber over at Townhall has launched the saddest of ad hominem attacks on Sam Harris with her "Christian" titled article: "Letter to a Stupid Atheist".

You have to give her credit though - credit for proving Sam's thesis in a few short paragraphs. Here's the intro that Sam gives for writing "Letter to a Christian Nation":
There are, however, a few gems of reason, rationality and humor from a couple of very notable exceptions: Phylo and Notta Doubt. Here's an excerpt from Phylo's comment:

Since the publication of my first book, The End of Faith, I have received thousands of letters and e-mails from religious believers insisting that I am wrong not to believe in God. Invariably, the most unpleasant of these communications have come from Christians. This is ironic, as Christians generally believe that no faith imparts the virtues of love and forgiveness more effectively than their own. Please accept this for what it is: the testimony of a man who is in a position to observe how people behave when their faith is challenged. Many who claim to have been transformed by Christ's love are deeply, even murderously, intolerant of criticism. What Ms. Graber fails to prove about Sam's thesis is more than made up for by her fellow Christians' comments which affirm the rest of the thesis:
How do I know this? Because the most deranged of my correspondents always cite chapter and verse.Page through the comments and be prepared to be dazzled by the name-calling, hell-fire damning hate of her fellow Christians and conservatives. Here's an excerpt from one of the more frightening believers - LadyRebel:
As I understand it, the destruction of the infidels was necessary so that Christ could be born thru specific bloodlines as foretold by prophecy. Simple, but hard truth. Please Jesus - save me from your followers!
After Christ was born, true Christians have only been martyrs. Never oppressors. Calling agrevious, greedy, and petty power-seekers "Christian" is intellectually dishonest. True "followers of Christ" have never oppressed anyone.
There are, however, a few gems of reason, rationality and humor from a couple of very notable exceptions: Phylo and Notta Doubt. Here's an excerpt from Phylo's comment:
Did Christianity make you so bitter? And here's an excerpt from NottaDoubt's comment:
Ms. Grabar, if you want your criticism of Mr. Harris's book to resonate outside the circle of people who already believe as you do, you might want to consider adopting a more substantive argument. This piece sounds like the rantings of a pre-pubescent girl, just dripping with contempt, anger, sarcasm and juvenile argumentation.
Notice how Mr. Harris didn't title his book "Letter to stupid Christians". Apparently he has more respect for Christians than you do for atheists.
The idea that “real Christians” are poor and humble, while secular humanists, atheists, Unitarians and … ahem … Jews … are filthy rich and materialistic is an insulting and bigoted stereotype. If you’re bothered by the fact that you’re struggling on an adjunct professor’s stipend and believe it’s because of Jesus, well, um, maybe you need to go out “in the world” like the rest of us realists and raise your station. Otherwise, maybe you need to stop bashing.Amen to that.

So the NeoCons are sorry now?
So Perle was for the war but didn't realize how incompetent this administration would be in carrying it out or how horrifying it would be. Here's an excerpt from his Vanity Fair interview: Neo Culpa
Millions of us knew the horror and carnage that this preemptive war would bring. We marched in the streets and contacted the White House and our representatives and begged them not to do it. What was Bush's response to the millions of protestors around the world? He shrugged it off. Remember this interview?
Here is the video I made asking people to speak out against the war in February of 2003 that I posted on my old website, "The Accidental President". It's titled "The Emperor Shrugged".
So Perle was for the war but didn't realize how incompetent this administration would be in carrying it out or how horrifying it would be. Here's an excerpt from his Vanity Fair interview: Neo Culpa
Perle says: "The levels of brutality that we've seen are truly horrifying, and I have to say, I underestimated the depravity..."
Perle goes so far as to say that, if he had his time over, he would not have advocated an invasion of Iraq: "I think if I had been delphic, and had seen where we are today, and people had said, 'Should we go into Iraq?,' I think now I probably would have said, 'No, let's consider other strategies for dealing with the thing that concerns us most, which is Saddam supplying weapons of mass destruction to terrorists.'...I don't say that because I no longer believe that Saddam had the capability to produce weapons of mass destruction, or that he was not in contact with terrorists. I believe those two premises were both correct. Could we have managed that threat by means other than a direct military intervention? Well, maybe we could have."

President Bush said today he would not be swayed by the massive crowds of anti-war protesters who marched in cities around the world over the weekend.Mr. Perle, I knew what would happen. All sane people, not blinded by power and hubris did. Goddammit. I wish that the American people were smarter than the idiot emperor they've imposed on the entire world. May some sense of sanity return to them on November 7th.
Pres. BUSH: First of all, you know, size of protests--it's like deciding, `Well, I'm going to decide policy based upon a focus group.' The role of a leader is to decide policy based upon, in this case, the security of the people.

Yet another gay Republican outed
Pastor Haggard is a staunch Republican with close ties to George Bush. Here's a great clip about Haggard from Richard Dawkins'interview in his documentary, "The Root of all Evil?"
Top Evangelist Rev. Ted Haggard Resigns Amid Allegations of Gay Affair
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Rev. Ted Haggard resigned as president of the 30 million-member National Association of Evangelicals on Thursday after being accused of paying a man for sex in monthly trysts over the past three years.
Haggard - an outspoken opponent of the drive for gay marriage - also stepped down as senior pastor at his 14,000-member New Life Church pending an investigation by a church panel, saying he could "not continue to minister under the cloud created by the accusations."

Two Canadian Killers - Eh?
The Conservative Voice has an article pointing out the two top "killers" in Canada.
What are the "killers"? The "devil's religion" (immorality/homosexuality) and socialized medicine.
Leave it to an American, who has a second home in Nova Scotia, to point out how the "devil's religion" has set up shop in Canada.
It seems that Mr. Swank has seen a lot of backsliding in Nova Scotia. Remarkably, he finds that he doesn't have a very receptive audience to preach to.

When I am in my Kennetcook home (our other home is in Maine), I frequently invite persons in for a visit. If the subject of personal salvation through Christ comes up, I speak biblical truth in love. However, those who are genuinely aligned with Christ know that this stirs up the demonic presence in those not saved.Mr. Swank is well aware that his is not a popular perspective. Here's what happened when he confronted his minister:
Over time, the persons confronted with biblical truth via my conversations have chosen to go with Christ or set up a barrier against God. Of course, that in turn sets up a social barrier against me. Few have responded to the gospel message of personal salvation via Christ's grace.
I confronted him in my last visit about his backslidden state. He became so angry that for personal safety I had to run from his parsonage porch to my car.(You go, Preacherman!)
I must say that my wife is not of the same mind as I when it comes to defending biblical truth against the spreading apostasy in the village. She would hold to "peace at any price." I responded to her by saying that we are not here to be liked. We are here to do God's work.Mr. Swank, congratulations on accomplishing part of your mission.

Looks like someone's going to burn in hell

(Attention circularlogisticians!! Maybe you can make some sense of this):
>>only Satan could have pinned sin onto God in the form of words that projects God being revengeful and jealous.<<
So Satan is more powerful than an all-mighty God?
>>Religious people recognize Satan commits sins and God delivers love and joy. <<
And sane people think think this is idiotic bullshit.

(Attention circularlogisticians!! Maybe you can make some sense of this):
Proof Satan Wrote Parts of The Bible
by Michael Levey
There are many passages in the bible and other holy books that clearly state that God is revengeful, jealous, angry, and delivers plagues that kill babies. Theses are all deadly sins and God cannot commit sins or he will burn in hell. Also, it would be considered blaspheme by religious peoples logic to call God a sinner...
Religious people believe in the devil who they say entices weak human beings into sins such as jealousy, revenge and anger. Consequently, it must have been the devil that put the ideas of Gods evil deeds into the mind of the sages that wrote the bible and other holy books, not God.
Religious people recognize Satan commits sins and God delivers love and joy. Beyond any doubt there is the proof positive, that by religious peoples belief systems, only Satan could have pinned sin onto God in the form of words that projects God being revengeful and jealous. When the false mask of Satan's fear is taken away from Gods image, religious humanity is presented with a God that is good. When the sin of fear is removed from Gods word all wars will cease in Gods name.

Deceived and Used, The GOP Leaves Christian America at the Altar of Corporatism by Anthony Wade
Here are a couple of excerpts:
George Bush had no problem using his Christianity when it suited his political expediency. My Bible however says that we are to look at the fruit that one produces. I am afraid that Christians were so gleeful to hear a politician actually say the name of Jesus Christ in public, let alone call him their favorite philosopher, that they bought the package being sold to them without inspection. Five years later they are left standing at the altar of corporatism wondering how they got there. George Bush is a corporate president and the GOP is the party of corporatism. They have allowed corporations to write legislation and buy policy. They have repealed restrictions on corporations at the expense of individuals. They have decreased regulations to favor corporate America, at the expense of actual Americans. They have allowed the invasion of sovereign nations and presided over the deaths of untold thousands of people, all God's creations. They have allowed the president to ignore over 800 laws, illegally wiretap US citizens, and legalize torture. When the Supreme Court ruled against the president, a Supreme Court that he himself installed, the GOP Congress simply sought to pass laws overruling the Judicial Branch of government. This is the fruit the Republican Party has borne with complete control for five years.
The Christians in America have been used for the past five years. They bought the family values line from people with the moral base of a middle age man discussing masturbation with a 16 year old boy. They sold themselves out for gay marriage and abortion and did not realize that at the same time, they were supporting the party of war and the party of poverty.

"Affirmative Action" for Religious Organizations
There's a great article in yesterday's N.Y. Times: As Exemptions Grow, Religion Outweighs Regulation.
The article starts by comparing the standards required for two different types of daycare centers in Alabama; one is a public, non-profit center, the other is operated by a church. State inspectors can randomly inspect any public daycare center to make sure it complies with state standards for safety, equipment, etc.

State inspectors can randomly inspect any public daycare center to make sure it complies with state standards for safety, equipment, etc.
There must be continuing training for the staff. Her nurseries must have two sinks, one exclusively for food preparation. All cabinets must have safety locks. Medications for the children must be kept under lock and key, and refrigerated. But the church-run daycare comes under no such constraints:
Alabama exempts church day care programs from state licensing requirements, which were tightened after almost a dozen children died in licensed and unlicensed day care centers in the state in two years. The non-profit daycare centers must also keep financial statements on file with the I.R.S. - a requirement the Federal government exempts churches from. Another benefit of being a religious organization.
The article continues:
In recent years, many politicians and commentators have cited what they consider a nationwide "war on religion" that exposes religious organizations to hostility and discrimination. But such organizations - from mainline Presbyterian and Methodist churches to mosques to synagogues to Hindu temples - enjoy an abundance of exemptions from regulations and taxes. And the number is multiplying rapidly...
The special breaks amount to "a sort of religious affirmative action program," said John Witte Jr., director of the Center for the Study of Law and Religion at the Emory University law school.
